Soft Tendencies (2019)

Soundscape and moving image installation by Kati Roover and Elizabeth Ellis presented in At Three Miles An Hour, a group exhibition organized by Ströndin Studio and Skaftfell Center for Visual Art as part of the June 2019 Wanderlust Residency in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland.

Soft Tendencies is a sonic exploration of interiority—how exterior space is felt, mediated, and created through the body as it engages with the acoustic environments of Seyðisfjörður. A dreamy, sensorial expression of longing and desire. Sounds gathered include: the interior spaces of the Fjörður house where the artists lived during the Wanderlust residency with Skaftfell Center for Visual Art and Ströndin Studio, and the environment surrounding the fjord. Spoken text is collected from way-finding signage from the artists’ daily walking routes; the East iceland Heritage Museum in Egilsstaðir; writings by Elizabeth Ellis; and Brandon Labelle’s Lexicon of the Mouth: Poetics and Politics of Voice and the Oral Imaginary.
